Arsakeio Pre-Primary School of Psychico

International Day of Peace at Arsakeio Pre-Primary School of Psychico

Arsakeio Pre-Primary School of Psychico, as a member of UNESCO ASPnet Schools, participated in the International Day of Peace celebrations. All students (aged 5-6 years old) talked about peace, read relevant books and poems and sang songs. Here there are some indicative actions:

The students of N.1 class talked about war and decided to create a unique cannon, The Peace Cannon, that does not throw bullets at other people but flowers, presents, ice-creams and smiling faces.

Using the brainstorming technique, the students of the N.2 class expressed their ideas and -with their teacher’s help- created their word cloud about peace. Additionally, by using papercraft, they created the most special colourful peace signs!

The students of the N.3 class decided to form the peace sign by using elements from the environment to transmit an exceptional ecological message about peace!

The students of the N.4 class had the chance to talk about peace and express their concern about the active wars that are spread worldwide. They felt really excited as they are lucky enough to live in a country that cherishes the values of peace and safety. Using their imagination, they created their lady Peace so as to remind them to act and behave in such a way that peace will always be celebrated all over the world.

The students of the N.5 class discussed Pablo Picasso and his famous paintings “Guernica” (1937) and “Dove of Peace” (1949). Subsequently, they decided to become painters and -through collaboration- they created their own Guernica and Dove of Peace.

1st Vocational School of Didymoteicho

International Day of Peace at the 1st Vocational School of  Didymoteicho

Peace, according to the preamble of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, is one of the highest ideals, along with freedom and justice, which are founded on respect for human dignity and serve human rights as a whole.

Education is an inalienable human right and, at the same time, a means and tool for promoting and strengthening other human rights.

According to Unesco, education for a culture of peace and non-violence is a process of promoting knowledge, skills, attitudes and values needed for the changes to be achieved so that they will contribute to the development of such behaviours that will prevent violence and conflicts.

In this context, the 1st Vocational School of Didymoteicho, "Evgenios Eugenides," celebrated World Peace Day with actions.

We organized groups that discussed the hate speech that breeds war and the progress that can be achieved globally by consolidating peace.

Apart from the theoretical background, we framed our program with activities in the school area. The result was the interactive communication of the student community and the strengthening of the global request to prevent violence.

Give peace...a book!

"Give peace...a book!": 1st Vocational High School of Aghia Paraskevi

As part of our participation in ASPnet UNESCO, we received from the National Coordinator the proposal to participate in the awareness campaign "Embrace Peace", an initiative of the 8th Primary School of Kifissia to celebrate the International Day of Peace. We were inspired by the suggested message "All dressed in white!".

The students who participated in the activity discussed the World Day of Peace and read poems on peace from books suggested by the teachers responsible for the Library of the Vocational School of Aghia Paraskevi, who coordinated the action.

On September 21, 40 students and 5 teachers, all dressed in white t-shirts, gathered in the courtyard, formed the peace sign and shouted the slogan "Give peace...a book!" picking up 45 books of poetry selected by the Library.

After the action was over, the rapper "Zenkai" sang his own song about peace. A 2nd-grade student created a short video in which John Lennon's well-known anti-war song "Give Peace a Chance" can be heard, which inspired the title of our action.
